The Experience

Itinerary Details

Day 1 - Introduction

+

The city of Shiva — Varanasi, is one of the oldest cities in the world. Located on the banks of the Ganges, it is the spiritual capital of India. It is believed that Varanasi was founded by Shiva himself more than 5000 years ago. It is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. The city is famous for its ghats — stone steps descending to the river, where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions.

Day 2 - Ghats

+

There are more than 80 ghats in Varanasi. Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most famous, where the colorful Ganga Aarti ceremony takes place every evening. Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat are the main cremation sites. Assi Ghat is popular with foreign tourists and pilgrims.

Day 3 - Temples

+

There are thousands of temples in the city. The most important is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Shiva (Golden Temple). Also known are the Durga Temple (Monkey Temple), Tulsi Manas Temple, and Sankat Mochan.

Day 4 - Sarnath

+

10 km from Varanasi is Sarnath — the place where Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Here are the Dhamek and Chaukhandi stupas, as well as an archaeological museum with the Lion Capital of Ashoka.

Day 5 - Silk

+

Varanasi is famous for its silk and brocade. Banarasi saris are considered some of the best in India and are often used as wedding dresses.

Day 6 - How to get there

+

Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport receives flights from major Indian cities. Varanasi Junction railway station connects the city with the whole country.
